• FDX has a small edge on UPS in China (2 extra routes)
• FDX is recognized as a premium brand, may give it more pricing power
• FDX is a smaller company ($32B) versus UPS' $84B - more nimble and a faster growth story.
Continue to gain market share in its domestic ground and freight business. The company has the lowest cost structure in the ground business and only about a 20% share, compared to 60% for UPS, so the potential to build share over the next few years is obvious. Realizing that potential without depressing margins is the challenge, but if last quarter was any indication the outlook is promising.

interkontinental ist fedex auch dank der großen flotte (siehe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FedEx) auf platz 2, leider handelt es sich heirbei aber nur um ein 9 billion $ geschäft. inerhalb von europa ist der anteil sehr gering. In den usa liegt fedex mit 27% hinter ups hier kann evtl. in zukunft marktanteil gewonnen werden.. im asiatisch-pazifischen raum, der raum mit dem meisten wachstum, ist der marktanteil von fedex ebenfallls mit 4 % ziehmlcih klein. im vergleich mit dhl, ups und tnt ist der anteil aber durchschnitt.
ein problem wird deutlcih: die starke abhängigkeit von den usa (dies stört mich gewaltig!) und der konjunkturellen entwicklung dort.

fedex hat sich hauptsächlich auf den internationalen versand & den express versand spezailisiert. dadurch schwächen sich die konkurrenz bedingungen für das unternehmen ab da der gebotenen service durch die geschwindigkeit "first class" & einmalig ist. dem entsprechend ist auch das image.

The latest results include a gain of 6 cents per share from a settlement with Airbus related to an order cancellation for A380 aircraft. Revenue rose to $35.2 billion from $32.3 billion. For fiscal 2007, the transportation, e-commerce and business provider earned $2.02 billion, or $6.48 a share, up from $1.81 billion, or $5.83 a share, the previous year. The company forecast earnings growth in fiscal 2008 below its long-term 10% to 15% target.

bietet ab sofort innerhalb Chinas an Arbeitstagen seinen zeitgenauen Übernacht-Service an. Dabei erfolgt die Zustellung bis Mitte des folgenden Tages.
Seit FedEx diesen so genannten Next-Business-Day Service am 28. Mai eingeführt hat, hat es sein Einzugsgebiet von ursprünglich 19 auf mehr als 30 Städte ausgeweitet. Darüber hinaus ist der taggenaue Zustellservice mit zwei Tagen Laufzeit mittlerweile in über 200 Städten und Bezirken innerhalb Chinas verfügbar. Da die Nachfrage der Kunden steigt, erhöht sich die Zahl der Städte, in denen FedEx seine Dienstleistungen anbietet, weiterhin rapide.
so ne expansion ist auf jeden fall positiv zu bewerten.
kleine beobachtung von mir:
als ich letzte woche in kairo war habe ich dort in 60 minuten busfahrt 3 fedex trucks gesehen. keinen ups und ein dhl.
